Acid reflux is a digestive disease in which stomach acid / bile irritates the food pipe lining. 

Acid reflux and heartburn more than twice a week indicates GERD.

Symptoms include – discomfort/ burning pain in the chest ( mainly retrosternal) usually occurs after eating and worsens on lying down.

Diagnosed by UGIEndoscopy and esophageal pH monitoring.

Treatment consists of lifestyle and dietary modifications in combination with medications.

Diagnosis and treatment is a must because if left untreated for very long period might lead to precancerous state of esophageal mucosa.
